That actually makes sense, considering this waterfall is the next one downstream. I mean, first you go "fishing" to the waterfall directly under the Wolf's Den. Marvin writes the note to the journal, something like "Nothing to see here, probably he meant some other waterfall?". So the next logical thing to do is to follow the stream.
